As part of its participation in the ASDA 2026 Conference, the delegation of the Ministry of Defence, led by Deputy Minister Gëgë Lleshi, also paid a visit to the city of Vukovar with the aim of gaining first-hand insight into the history of the war and the memorial sites that bear witness to the sacrifice of the Croatian people in defending the country’s freedom and independence.
During its visit to Vukovar, the delegation toured the Memorial Hospital, the Memorial Museum, and other locations of historical significance. The delegation also paid tribute at the Memorial Cemetery of the Victims of the Homeland War, laying wreaths in honor of those who fell in defense of their country.
During the visit, the delegation was briefed on the historical developments of the war in Vukovar, the suffering endured by the civilian population, and the humanitarian consequences of the conflict. The visit also served as a moment of reflection on the similar experiences of the Republic of Kosovo during the years 1998–1999.
On the margins of the ASDA 2026 activities, the Minister of Defence held meetings with veterans of Croatia’s Homeland War, including veterans of Albanian origin who contributed to the defense of Croatia during the war. On this occasion, appreciation was expressed for their contribution and sacrifice in defending the values of freedom, democracy, and peace.
The delegation also met with five cadets of the Kosovo Security Force who are pursuing their studies at the military educational institutions of the Republic of Croatia. During the meeting, discussions focused on the progress of their studies and professional development, while recognizing the cadets’ commitment to enhancing their academic and military capacities in service of the Kosovo Security Force.
The delegation also visited the Embassy of the Republic of Kosovo in Zagreb, where it was received by the Ambassador of the Republic of Kosovo, Dr. Martin Berishaj, and members of the diplomatic staff. Discussions focused on the embassy’s activities in advancing relations between the Republic of Kosovo and the Republic of Croatia, as well as on the continued inter-institutional cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
The Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Kosovo remains committed to strengthening cooperation with partner countries, developing the professional capacities of the defence sector, and promoting the shared values of peace, security, and democracy.
