Minister Mehaj hosted the Minister of Defense of Italy, Guido Crosetto, with high military honours

Within the framework of the meetings with the counterparts of the partner countries, the Minister of Defense, Armend Mehaj, hosted with high military honors the Minister of Defense of Italy, Guido Crosetto, and his delegation on an official visit. Initially, the two ministers held tête-à-tête meeting, to continue at the level of the two delegations.

Afterwards, the two ministers held a press conference, where on this occasion, in his speech, Minister Mehaj welcomed his Italian counterpart, emphasizing that the state of Italy is a very important friend and partner of the Republic of Kosovo, in all aspects, including the field of defense and security.

Also, Minister Mehaj expressed his deep gratitude for the contribution of the Italian military troops throughout the 23-year period within KFOR, a contribution which continues even now.

During this visit, Minister Mehaj informed Minister Crosetto of the development processes that the Ministry of Defense and the KSF are going through, stressing that all the achievements of the Ministry of Defense and the KSF so far are attributed to the Ministry’s multiple support and Italian partner forces.

“Our partnership through bilateral cooperation has already been strengthened even further with numerous activities during this year, and added even more for next year, through the joint military plan for 2023”, said Minister Mehaj at this conference, adding that political experience and Italy’s military, as a very important NATO member country and the standards of its forces, are of great importance for the development of our forces with interoperable capacities for joint operations in the service of protecting peace, freedom and democracy anywhere in the world.

From his part, Minister Crosetto, in front of the local and Italian media, emphasized that this visit confirms the great importance of the Western Balkans and Kosovo, as an important country in the region, mentioning the over 20-year commitment of the contingent of military troops within of KFOR. Among other things, he expressed gratitude for Kosovo’s friendship and hospitality to the Italian troops, as well as deep gratitude for Kosovo’s attitude towards the crisis in Ukraine.

In the end, Minister Crosetto expressed the readiness to support our country in the development processes of the MoD and KSF, as well as the integration processes in NATO and the EU.

The visit of the Italian Minister of Defense highlighted once again the interest of both countries in the intensification of bilateral cooperation in areas of common interest in the function of regional security and stability and beyond.
